Remembering Together Angus comes to a close

Bench at Montrose Playhouse

Since 2022 lead artist producer Abbey Craig and associate artist Lily Garget have been engaging with local communities and groups to co-create the memorial which is comprised of three interconnected elements: a mobile memory box, a new website, and a specially commissioned bench installed at three locations across Angus.

Creating a lasting digital archive for the community, the website, designed by Michela Zoppi, contains musical recordings, playlists, testimonials and stories contributed by community groups, local people and organisations which have been involved in the project.

On display at The Montrose Playhouse, the mobile memory box acts as a physical reminder for the period, containing objects closely associated with the pandemic, as well as items that directly link to projects on the website. The box will be available for any group or organisation to borrow from March 2025.

The bench, designed by local artist Mickey Fenton, creates physical spaces for continued reflection and remembrance across the region. There are three benches, located outside of The Montrose Playhouse, and along the beachfront in Arbroath and on Kirrie Hill in Kirriemuir.

Designed in consultation with accessibility advisors, the benches have been built with space for wheelchair users and will all be located in close proximity to a Changing Places Facility.
