Dundee is a compact and dynamic city with a population of almost 150,000, situated by the River Tay and home to an abundance of green open spaces. With a strong cultural identity and history of innovation and creativity, Dundee has time and time again used their culture and creativity as key drivers of social and economic regeneration.
From rapid economic growth in the 19th century as a result of Dundee's jute industry, through post-war electrical and mechanical engineering, the city is now home to a cutting-edge life sciences sector, a dynamic digital media industry, world-renowned higher education institutions and a vibrant design and creative industries sector.
The city's rich design heritage has been internationally recognised through becoming the UK's first UNESCO City of Design in 2014. The team behind Dundee's designation as a UNESCO City of Design will be delivering this programme on behalf of the City of Dundee.
