Pathways - South Ayrshire
Located in the grounds of Rozelle House in Ayr, 'Pathways' depicts each of our different experiences throughout the pandemic.
Different paths are engraved into the stone, distinguished with different coloured resin. Pathways can be followed throughout the piece from start to finish and the visual tracks are a focus for reflection.
The artist was inspired by her time spent in Rozelle Park during the pandemic and right back to being a child.
During the worst of COVID-19, the public were grateful for public outdoor spaces and re-ignited their love of walking and connecting with nature.
Along 'Pathways' you will read the quote 'Tending the tulips, growing the geraniums, like nature, we emerge.'
This quote is from a poem created from answers by key workers to the question, 'What keeps you going through the COVID-19 pandemic?'
The design also reflects NHS solutions to the pandemic where hospitals had to adopt different patient pathways to limit transmission of the virus.
Kathryn Hanna was commissioned by South Ayrshire Council to create this artwork in collaboration with Ayrshire Granite.
Kathryn has also been commissioned to carry out Phase 1 for Remembering Together South Lanarkshire.
