Remembering Together North Ayrshire is coming to a close
Aeneas Wilder's concept is that of a Spiral Cairn or Labrinth structure inspired by community interest in a natural, relaxing and meditative memorial. It reflects the desire for rockeries and labyrinths in monumental form referencing the concepts of cairns and the folklore pf standing stones.
Located at Eglinton Country Park, the circular granite construction is intended to be a space for reflection and sharing of community experiences. It has a connective sculptural approach with thoughtfully positioned seating that encapsulates overarching themes identified by the public:
• Human connection and interaction
• Meditation and relaxation
• The things we missed most
• Natural scenery and experiencing the outdoors
The memorial includes a circle of 36 native Rowan trees, chosen both for their hearty flowers and because they are symbolic of protection. At the centre, a small wildflower labyrinth is to be planted in partnership with the community gardening group already active within the Park.
