Impact of Covid on community groups -Age Scotland
The short video series from Age Scotland encapsulate the various experiences of older people from across Scotland during the lockdown. It celebrated the voices of older people, their resilience, courage and determination to live life to the fullest.
The films specifically gives an insight into how their community lives were pre-pandemic and how Covid impacted them. The series provides a deeper understanding that “coming out of the pandemic” is a difficult process. Lack of social connection, as most older people live on their own and with families faraway made it extremely challenging. The national lockdowns made them more vulnerable to feeling lonely and bored and with lack of social interaction meant that their mental and physical well-being was compromised.
It further underlines the value of older people in our society and the vital role care, gathering and friendship plays for older people. It shows the essential role of community organisations and volunteers who came up with creative and innovative ways of engaging with older people. Age Scotland has some great resources and services to help older people who are struggling through the Pandemic.
