Small Memorials - Phase 1 Outcomes

Through workshops, house visits and pop ups, residents of West Dunbartonshire were invited to create ceramic, pocket-sized sculptures to communicate their experiences of the Covid-19 pandemic. These, ‘small memorials,’ accompanied by their maker’s descriptions, were exhibited as part of a final event. As part of this event, artists working in spoken word, music and movement were invited to create responses. These became the starting point for a wider, reflective conversation with the community present that day.  We thought of this experiment as a process of ‘double mirroring,’ bouncing reflections off of one another in a dialogue of many forms and expressions.   A short video document of this event, and a recording of a discussion, can be found via Hydra Arts’ website here, https://www.hydraarts.org/small-memorials
