Orkney Phase 2: Megumi Barrington-Uenoyama

In the Orkney Islands, Remembering Together projects have been commissioned in five communities: Flotta, Shapinsay, East Mainland, North Ronaldsay and Sanday.

Meet Megumi Barrington-Uenoyama, one of two artists working in Shapinsay and East Mainland.

Megumi is a Japanese artist based in Orkney Islands. Her inspiration reflects both her Japanese heritage and her interest in the landscape, natural history and exploring creative ideas through living in Orkney. She was born in Osaka, Japan and studied Visual Communication Design at Kyoto Seika University, also Painting at Chelsea College of Art and Design at University Arts London.

She is a director of Soulisquoy Printmakers, a council member of Orkney Japan Association and a member of MÓTI Collective. She has been based the Wasps Stromness studio since spring 2024.
