Meet the Makers

Remembering Together: Renfrewshire Team are excited to announce that we will be working with Sculpture House as our Makers for Phase 2 of the project.

Laura Alrdridge

Based in Ferguslie Park, Renfrewshire, Sculpture House is a collective run by a group of artists with a passion for sculpture and social inclusion. They aim to bring together professional artists and members of the community, widening access to the visual arts. The Sculpture House itself contains studio facilities and spaces that support a range of inclusive activities, providing new opportunities to experience sculpture.

Artists James Rigler and Laura Aldridge are leading for Sculpture House on the Remembering Together: Renfrewshire. Both artists have a strong sense of community collaboration at the heart of their practice, as well as artistic careers spanning several decades and a belief in sculpture’s power to transform our lived environments.

Based on our community brief, created in collaboration with our local community groups in Phase 1 project, they will be working across 3 sites in Renfrewshire to create the memorial spaces. They provided us with exciting, accessible and creative initial designs in response to the brief and we are looking forward to connecting our community groups with the makers, involving them in the process, connecting the artistic team and community through celebratory sharing events in 2024.

“Sculpture House are very proud to have been chosen to create Renfrewshire's Remembering Together memorials. The testimonies from the public about their experiences of COVID moved us deeply, and we're excited to begin work on a response that is inspired by these stories and memories. As artists, we feel that sculpture has the power to interrogate big ideas, using form and materials to communicate beyond the limits of language. We are honoured to have the opportunity to bring these qualities to our local Renfrewshire community.” James Rigler, Sculpture House

We move forward into 2024 and the second half of Phase 2 of the project with creative possibilities on the horizon. Our aim -  to create sites for our Renfrewshire Community that are places of rest and reflection, where new things can grow, where stories can be told, and places of  permanence and future history.
